The LightBay Foundation Keeps Kids Learning in Los Angeles
When students cannot go to school, their learning will be shaped to a great degree by the resources available in their homes, which means the novel coronavirus threatens to widen educational inequity in America. The LightBay Foundation is proud to announce that it has provided a gift of $100,000 to DonorsChoose to support students and teachers in high-poverty schools throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District.
DonorsChoose, a non-profit crowdfunding platform dedicated to supporting public school teachers, has established a program called “Keep Kids Learning” as a way to let teachers in the nation’s highest poverty schools send their students personalized education care packages during these unprecedented times. Nearly 70,000 of DonorsChoose’s pre-vetted teachers work at schools where 90%+ of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. The Keep Kids Learning program will help teachers in these communities supply their students with books, food, and other essential educational items during school closures.
100% of the funds raised for the Keep Kids Learning campaign will be put in the hands of teachers to purchase and send students vital learning materials.
